Micronas Finds Axis Systems' Xtreme Speeds Verification of Chips for Digital TV and Set-Top Box Designs
German Chipmaker Turns to Axis' Xtreme to Achieve Optimum Cost/Performance Ratio With Maximum Level of Flexibility
SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2001--
Axis Systems Inc. announced today that Micronas (Freiburg,
Germany) has chosen Axis' Xtreme acceleration/emulation system for its
simulation speed, ease of use and efficient debugging capabilities.
Micronas plans to use Xtreme to debug and verify its digital
television and set-top box designs.
"We searched for a single verification system that would serve all
of our verification needs, from simulation acceleration to emulation,
and enable us to achieve an optimum cost/performance ratio with a
maximum level of flexibility. We found just what we needed in Axis'
Xtreme," said Dirk Wieberneit, Micronas vice president of product
development. "Xtreme is now a key part of our functional verification
methodology."
Micronas evaluated several verification products in the
marketplace, but according to Wieberneit, the design team was able to
work faster and more efficiently using Xtreme. Based on Axis'
ReConfigurable Computing technology, Xtreme was very easy to bring up
and integrate into Micronas' existing design flow. "Xtreme was much
easier to use than other systems, and had debugging capabilities not
found in other systems," Wieberneit said.
Axis' unique debugging capabilities include VCD-on-Demand and hot
swapping. VCD-on-Demand saves the simulation history for an entire
design, eliminating the need to resimulate when a bug is found, which
saves considerable time. Hot swapping enables design teams to switch
from emulation, accelerated simulation, and software simulation,
saving time thanks to a common database and common debugging
environment.
"Micronas has recognized the advantages that Xtreme's acceleration
and emulation capabilities bring to their bottom line," said Mike
Tsai, Axis president and CEO. "We're delighted to partner with them in
the verification of some very challenging digital video designs, and
look forward to future projects."
Wieberneit added, "Our partnership with Axis offers us an optimal
solution for our challenging design projects now and in the future."
Micronas has established a strong market position in promising,
high-growth semiconductor applications for consumer electronics,
multimedia, and automotive electronics industries. The company will
use Xtreme at its facilities in Munich and Freiburg, Germany; and in
Villach, Austria.
